Ant Berry Blitz


Have you ever looked at an Ant on the ground and imagine what it must be like to be this little guy? Well, imagine this! The dirt floor he crawls on is a stadium, his nest is an endzone, and a berry lies between him and the opposing Ant colony. He must go face to face with the Ants trying to steal the berry, and he knows it's going to be an Ant Berry BLITZ! 



Ant Berry Blitz combines the idea of American football with ants. Ants passing a blueberry around and blitzing past the opposing colony to bring it back to score! We did what we could with the restrictions, and let our imaginations do the heavy lifting for the most part. We had envisioned tiny blue and red ants going ballistic over a tiny berry and out came Ant Berry Blitz! Our game sounds basic but is so much fun for a preschool game!


Target Audience - The age demographic for Ant Berry Blitz is for preschoolers, but this game is really E-for-everyone! All it takes is playing a simple game of rock paper scissors and moving your Ants to the end to score. Even with this simple gameplay, the game is very competitive and creates lots of laughter. 

    - The Joker: Having fun playing rock paper scissor going back and forth and feeling the intensity of being tackled or getting a score!

    -The Competitor: Wanting to beat your friend and score the most points, analyzing your opponent's patterns to decide what hand you should play.

Our Game in general doesn't even have to follow the main rules, as long as you got the basics down, you can even make your own rules. The way you want to play is up to you, making Ant Berry Blitz suitable for everyone!

Iteration Process - We didn't want Ant Berry Blitz just to be about running down the field with a single token to score on the opponent. That has no strategy involved. This is why we increased the number of tokens you can move during a turn. This turns a slow, mundane round into a tense, stressful round where you’re constantly pressured. While our game is meant for preschoolers, anyone can play our game due to the simple concept. Casual players can have fun and competitive players can have fun because we focused on the enjoyability of our game. If a game isn’t fun to play, then something went wrong. Regarding competitive players, given the movement freedom provided, these players can conceptualize any strategy they plan. Even with rock-paper-scissors, you can stress the enemy by simply winning a round of rock-paper-scissors. Our innovation comes from giving our players freedom with our game!


Problems We Faced - The most difficult part of our iteration was making sure to not turn our game into a game that's not for preschoolers. We saw that the rules confused a lot of people, so if it confused college students, it would for sure confuse preschoolers. To solve this problem, we came up with basic game mechanics to make the game as simple and fun as possible.

Group Effort - Me and Jann made a great team, and I strongly believe our game came out so good because of our dynamic. If you don't have a team that you don't click with, your game may reflect that. I did the game design and Jann rules and regulations. We had no problem getting stuff done and creating ideas because we both had a strong desire to make a cool game. When me and Jann had problems regarding our game, we mashed our brains together to create a solution. Or game is no one man show, it took equal effort from me and my partner.


Room For Improvement - The main struggle that could have been improved was the clarity of our rule sheet. Instead of just making the game where you don't have to use the rules, me and Jann could have taken the chance to try and perfect the rule sheet instead of just saying that you don't have to follow the rules we made. We made the decision to have the ability to skip the rules as a way to push away confusion, but I'm sure if we really tried to perfect the rule sheet, the rules of our game could be clear, and we wouldn't have to get rid of them.
