Solitaire Confinement

Game Summary Statement: - Think you have what it takes to beat Solitaire? Think again! Become confined in Solitaire Confinement and limit yourself to make only the best moves possible to win! Can’t beat the game? Sorry buddy, skill issue, time for you to play easy mode.

Solitaire Confinement has fast paced gameplay that pushes players to think quickly but also strategically under pressure. Unlike traditional solitaire, our joker power-up makes for a more complex yet intricate obstacle. The challenge intensifies the more the timer goes down. While it's a test of mental agility it is also enjoyable.

Target Audience: - Players Ranging to the ages 14 and above can compete in the difficult Solitaire Confinement, since it is a very mind challenging game.

Our Player Types - The Competitor, The Achiever, The Director

  • The Competitor competes with himself, trying to beat his personal best or others personal best.
  • The Achiever wants to make the best plays possible to win a game without error, wanting to complete the game under the time limit.
  • The Director calls the plays, it is up to him or her to strategize and direct their own gameplay to win.

The player interaction pattern is single versus because the player is going against the clock. Solitaire Confinement appeals to those who look for a challenge in a game and like to play games as fast as possible.

Iteration Process: - When designing the rule sheet for Solitaire Confinement we focused on mainly getting our ideas down first and sculpting them into something that can be playable. Once our general ideas were set, we then started to get play testers to play our game and see if what we had made was fun and playable, and sure enough it was! This led us to get valuable feedback and add things that needed to be added into our game and what needed to be discarded. We were finally able to finalize our rule sheet once we got all the feedback we needed.

The problem with our iteration on the other hand was when we have finished our rule sheet, it was too confusing for people to understand. This confusing rule sheet made us have to backtrack and change things about our rule sheet to make the rule sheet more comprehensible. We found being more descriptive with the rules and adding pictures made our rule sheet less confusing!

Rule Sheet

Overview: - Both me and Sabastian found that combining our ideas together created one super idea which led us to make Solitaire Confinement what it is today! All gameplay mechanics came from me and Sabastian taking each other's ideas and analyzing what is right or what is wrong with the we have come up with and how will it create something that will benefit our game.

Coming together to brainstorm when we got stuck on rules or changes we should add or get rid of really helped our process to make our game the very best. We managed to fix the majority of our problems by receiving feedback from our play testers and doing what they said would be beneficial to our game.

Suits Can Stack Rule

One thing I would change about the development process going forward is building a stronger foundation to work on in the beginning of our game instead of being scrambled and loose with the ideas we had. I feel if we had done something like a mind map, our ideas would have been more well organized, and we would've had room to add more to our game.

Overall, I am proud of the game we made and gained so much out of this experience!
